Hop Substitution Chart

The March-April edition of Brew Your Own Magazine has a real handy hop substitution chart in it. I thought I would scan it in and put on the site. Magazines sometimes get messed up and won't hold up to excessive use. Especially when it takes multiple trips to the can...I'm sure you all weren't interested in that tidbit but what the hell.

Anyway, here's the chart to download if you want it. Hop Substitution Chart

If you have a slow internet connection it may take a while. The file is rather large. It is high resolution for printing purposes. I can always load a lower resolution for screen viewing.

Hop Chart

I looked it over, and have been following some details about it through various suppliers sites. Mostly on Midwest Supplies forum pages. The mag. does at least show you a basic rundown of growing your own hops as well as give you 4 different types of new varieties to try out and that will come close to some that is on the short list of being in low availability.

Hops restrictions lifted somewhat

I got a recent newsletter from Midwest supplies, and they stated that they lifted the limits on some of the hops that are available. Which is good, but I would still like to see if using substitution hops will benefit more than some others. It definitely would make some more interesting beer. It would now depend on availability since the ones limited are now available again. This would be good, but still open the doors to more beers being made with substitution hops. Which could be a bit more forgiving type of hops.
