Hey I went to Doug's yesterday and he is only selling hops with a recipe, and he is limiting it to 3oz per recipe. Also he closed for the month of May. I didn't know if every one new this or not. He told me he called Sam Adams and asked if he could buy 80lbs of that nasty E Kent Goldings because this hop is out every where. He said if they call back he was going to try to get some to Beer Ness. and help them out. He thinks he will be almost completely out of hops by the end of April!
Hop Shortage
Just bought some of the newer varieties, and was curious if any of you had tried them in anything. If so, what are your thoughts in comparison to the substitution?
Horizon: The chart says it is a sub for Amarillo and Cascade..... I am thinking about using it with some Summit and Simcoe to put on my next IPA.
Vanguard: Sub for Noble hops like Hallataur.... Used it as the primary hop in an alt beer (Similar to Alaska Amber this weekend so the jury is out)
German Spaltz: Added as the aroma hop in the beer above.
Summit: Bought it from Fresh Hops to use for pales etc.
Sterling: Supposed to be a Saaz sub, but the AA is noticeably higher...
