Jeff's Automated Heated Mashtun

Jeff's Automated Heated Mashtun

Here's a shot of my automated mashtun. I built this b/c I like to brew very early in the morning. I always set up my brewery the night before I'm going to brew. My goal the day before is to get as much prepared as possible so that brewday is less work and more enjoyable. I would typically get out of bed....walk down to the brewery and light my HLT burner. I would have to wait 45 minutes for the water to heat...then 20 or so minutes to transfer the water into the mashtun and get the temps settled down.

Part of my long term plan was to upgrade the brewery so that I would be able to roll out of bed .....go down to my brewery where my mashtun had the right amount of strike water at the precise temp I needed to dough in.

I finally finished this project. Here's a shot of the insulated lid I made to hold / mount all the automated heating components.

This lid has been designed to sit on top of my 32 gallon mashtun as well as my 14 gallon mashtun. I'm made a smaller system for my 5 and 3 gallon mashtuns.

The motor spins a prop at 60 rpm. I have it on standoffs so that the gear shaft is not exposed to steam. I orgininally had the motor mounted flush with the lid ...this made the gear shaft rust from the steam.
