Green Flash West Coast IPA

Heard this on the new Jamil show and decided to brew it today and see what happens. Here is the recipe for 5 gallons if anyone else is interested. Will try and have some ready for the July meeting.

Mash at 150 F
Target OG 1.075
13 Lbs. of English Pale Malt
1 Lbs. Carapils / Dextrine
1 Lbs. English Crystal

.5 oz. Simcoe 80 Min
.25 oz. Simcoe 60 Min
.25 oz. CTZ (Zeus) 60 Min
.50 oz. Simcoe 30 Min
.50 oz. CTZ 30 Min
.50 oz. Simcoe 15 Min
.50 oz. CTZ 15 Min
1 oz Cascade 5 Min
2 oz Cascade Dry
2 oz Amarillo Dry

I am replacing the CTZ hops in the recipe with Summit, b/c I already had them from last year.

I have one bottle of this

I have one bottle of this beer left, wasnt that impressed but let me know when the beer is finished and I will bring you the bottle to try it.

1.013 Gravity

That is after 2 weeks on the yeast, so I am going to rack to the keg for secondary. I like the results so far. Mashing low helps a lot with the malt character. If you still have the bottle it would cool to do a side by side.

That looks good! I have to

That looks good! I have to work next weekend maybe we can brew here on the Kirkster in 2 weeks? I am hoping to have a 10 gallon Mas Tun built by then.

If we use the small club system pots, we could have several people in on it...

as a club member you are

as a club member you are welcome to the big brew pot and soon the big mash tun (when i finish it) any time you need it.

Work for Me

Tell you what though... I love the aroma of those Summit Hops. It won't be a true "clone" but who cares.

i ordered some of this beer

i ordered some of this beer and if you havent had it before the beer is malty so i would mash at 150 if it was me. and use 1056 it will help dry it out some. there is no way the two bottles i had was mashed at 150. it was more like 154 to 155. what crystal are you using?

Nazi Crystal

It is the German Crystal (CaraFoam 30 L). Yeah, that is what I was thinking when I did my mash... Mashed in at 150.... Now, I am retracing my process b/c I came in at a 1.067 OG. Any how, I did use the 1056.... From the club blond ale. Harvested and did a starter... 15 minutes in the fermenter, and the blow off tube was about to explode. Fermenting at 69 F.
