New Web Site Report

This is just a review of the items covered at Saturday's meeting. Don't have my notes with me, so hoping I haven't forgotten anything important.

Because of the extreme amount of data that exists on the current Web site, we will have to eventually abandon it and the data stored there. In the mean time the plan is to create a new domain name (sabrewers.net) that will allow development of new site while we continue using the existing site for club business.

The Web hosting service and site design will be with Catzpaw Innovations (http://catzpaw.com/) owned and operated by Sherri Johnson. She's created the Web page for the Lake Dow Animal Hospital if you want to see some current work. (http://www.lakedowanimalhospital.com/)

I will personally do what ever work I can, but some of the features that we want are beyond my technical knowledge.

Tasks:
*Create a new URL done
*Engage a new hosting service done
*Identify requirements
*Add a 'pre-view' link (sabrewers.net) to the exisitng Web site
*Build components
~eMail list service (useful immediately)
~Main Page
---Sections, or left navigation quick links (reproduce what makes sense). About Us, Calendar, STOM, Forums, Photo Gallery, Water Reports, Contact Us.
~Account creation system
---With strong passwords
---Password reset and account creation protection using CAPTCHAS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAPTCHA)
~Forums
---Easy track format (?)
---Public area (via self service account creation)
---Private area for members only (via a manual increase in user privilege)
~Calendar
~Blog space (may be better just to use the forums)
~Photo and video posting area (may be better just to use the forums)
*Manually migrate or reproduce content from original site to new site
*Set up domain mirror (Web host responds toe both URLs

I'm looking for feedback and additional detail if you have any. I will continue to update this as we go forward.

Question

I missed the discussion, but is there a way to do a dump or archive of the existing site so we don't have to change it? Assume not since we are headed this direction. Just curious.
