i listen to Walter frequently and thought about calling him with questions about hops(pests).
maybe i'll try getting through and tell him about the good luck (and bad) that i've had with the cascade and perle here at the house.
I added some rhizomes to an online order last spring. I just picked the cheapest ones that would grow in the GA climate. I wound up with cascade and chinook. They did pretty well until the deer decided to eat the cascade.
I have to get the garden spot ready in order for me to do it. Will try and order at least 3 rhizomes of the same kind, yet not sure which one to get at the moment.

I recall there were 3 varieties that were said to be resilient enough to grow most anywhere. Cascade and Nugget I think were two, but I forget the other...
I was hoping to plant hops to climb that new arbor I just built. But I just learned that it probably won't grow anywhere in my yard, especially on the arbor. I just read that hops need 6 to 8 hours of sun per day. No place in my yard gets that much sun, and the area where the arbor is (by the pool) only has direct sun for 4 to 5 hours. May have to try anyway...
