Got a thought.......

So the other day I went by Just Brew It and talked to Doug, and thought about doing the style of month for March. I am still not sure whether to get 2 extract kits or just one and do another one I have a recipe for. I think that I just might go ahead and get 2 of them anyways and buy another ferment bucket to start the other one a week before the secondary get bottled.
I have been seeing the contest for the Peach State Brew Off, and I got a thought about entering it, just to see how well I would do and sort of see where I am in the homebrewing arena. That's if I can get the brew done before the registration deadline! I will talk to Doug about it, if I don't have the answer I'm looking for in here.
I can say that I finally have found a good group of people who like beer and homebrewing to get good information and help when I need it. I like to drink beer, and my dad is sometimes jealous since I do brew my own beer now and then! I even got my wife, to start drinking some craft brew, or at least some of the micro's.
I appreciate what everyone has done so far, and I do hope to return the favor sometime this summer.

Got the stuff.....

Well I got the stuff and now I can start brewing. I saved it for Sunday(on valentine's day...), but didn't want to lose any time in getting it started. I would like to make it for the deadline for the Peach State Brew Off, but if not, then well I will try next time. Either way, I just wanted to get it going before it's summer and I'm finally starting a brew.
The style is for march's style of the month, of Northern Brown (11c). It's London Bridges Brown Ale I saw at Just Brew It. So we shall see how it goes. Wish me luck, since I will be using a bottle capper for the first time! Have been just using the grolsch style bottles for a while now. It it goes well then I just might have to buy me a keg, since my wife likes Newcastle and I can have it on tap!

Brew Update 2/16/10

I didn't really got to start the brew process until early evening on Monday, but I did manage to get it done. Although I was up till 2am. Starting to think I need better planning on starting my brew day, or get a different job where I can have a more flexible schedule. I'm thinking of the first plan.
once I was done with the brew cycle and had it cooled down to pitch the yeast, I took a gravity test and found my gravity was 1.054. Which was close to what the recipe called for. Once I pitched the yeast I put my lid on and inserted the airlock and placed it in a box with blankets all around it for warmth. I so need to do something about my drafty and cold in the winter garage. I used a small space heater to at least keep the area fairly warm during the night. I do hope that it does warm up some this week.
I now just have to keep an eye on the airlock to see if it's stopped moving, a lot or a little, and go to my secondary. Which I might not really use and just do some bottle conditioning. Will have to see once the primary is done. Will keep everyone posted as to the progress.

Good luck Chris... ;)

Good luck Chris... ;)

Thanks, I've been putting

Thanks, I've been putting off brewing for a while now. Mainly due to living in an apartment and it would be hard to have a primary sitting in a corner when there is animals running around and it could get bumped and such, but now that I finally have a garage, I can see about doing some lagering during the winter months since my garage isn't heated or insulated enough.
Thanks for the encouragement, I already can see where I need to make some additional purchases. I am looking for a burner and bigger brew pot already. So we shall see what happens in a few weeks.
