Adding Pictures to your Posts

You may notice a little icon that looks like this at the bottom left hand corner of some submission form input fields. This feature allows you to upload an image and insert it into your submission or post. Note: this feature should not be used to upload images to a photo gallery. However, you can use images from existing image galleries and insert them into your posts this same way. Read on to find out how.

Let's say your posting a new forum topic and would like to include an image in your post. By placing your cursor (little blinky thing that tells you where your typing) in the desired location of your text and clicking on the upload picture icon you will get a pop-up window that will provide two options. Here you can browse images previously uploaded and use them in your post or you can upload a new image. Let's look at those two options in detail.

  • Using a previously uploaded image: Simply browse the images in the pop-up window and click on the desired image choice. You may browse all images or narrow your browsing by image galleries in the drop-down menu. Once you select the desired image, another page will load in the pop-up window allowing you to provide some details for the image. The title and description fields are optional. If you don't want other text around your image then leave these blank. I suggest going with the preview size default but you don't have to. Choose your alignment option and if you want the image to be linked to the original image via a pop-up window or other. I recommend using insert mode HTML Code but either should work fine. Click insert and a string of code will show up in your post. When you submit the post that code will be replaced with the image and your details.
  • Uploading your own image: Click the upload button. Fill in a Title for the image you are uploading and select a gallery to upload to. Organization of images is pretty important so please be sure to put your image in an appropriate gallery. There should be a catch-all gallery if one doesn't apply. Click the Browse button and select the image to upload from your computer. You can add some body text to this if you want but it is not required. There are a few other options but are not necessary either. If you aren't sure what to do just leave them as is. Click Submit and you will be presented a details screen just like in the previous example.
    • Adding images to your post obviously creates more engaging content and adds personality to the site. Use the insert image icon to build creative and interesting posts. It also helps when trying to demonstrate something to others. They say an image is worth a thousand words. Also, you can insert multiple images as well.

I hope this makes sense. Don't be afraid to try adding an image to your next post. If something goes wrong it can be fixed easily so don't be concerned. Try different settings to get your desired effect. And as always, if you have a question you can email me glenngolden@yahoo.com or comment this posting and I will try to help.
