Doug set me up with this "economy" brew recipe... (1) because my son's tuition is eating my family budget alive and, (2) well because I'm cheap.
$20 brew
Hops schedule note: Basically use what ever flavoring hops in the hop schedule as long as you don't add too much bitteing hops!
Anyway, my hope/plan is to use this as a 'base recipe' to experiment with hop schedules. (comments are welcome of course)
What I need help with is info obout the grains. Promash has a dozen Munich's and no Cara Red at all. Anyone know the particulars for these so I can choose, or create, the correct Munich and create an entry for Cara Red?

Take 2... Finally made a second version and (true to character) I failed to make it the same way. What can I say, I'm a tweeker.

$20 brew (v1)
I managed to get this done on Saturday.
Hops schedule for v1:
-Nugget .66oz 60
-Cascade 1oz 20
-Cascade 1oz 5
-Cascade 1oz 0
All were hole hops. I really like the aroma from the Nugget. Supprisingly, the Cascade didn't have as much aroma as I thought it should.
I id decide to move the boil to the garage because the wind was blowing pretty hard up on the deck where I normally brew. That and the threat of bad weather had me worried.
Here is the info for CaraRed
Here is the info for CaraRed so you can manually add to Promash:
Weyermann CaraRed. 20° L. Provides fuller body and imparts a deep, saturated red color, particularly to red ales and lagers, Scottish ales, bocks and altbiers
The munich is probably German since that's what Doug carries
Sounds like you need to make an American Amber ale...use the nugget for bittering and whatever "C" hops you have for flavor/aroma
The carared I think is close
The carared I think is close to caravienne. Being your only using 8 oz it should work fine in your pro mash recipe. As for hops I rember you saying you had cascade and centennial. I would add 1oz cenn. at thrity and 1.5oz cascade at ten mins. You have a lot of grain and extract so you must be making an double ipa or an old ale. If your making an ipa keep ibus at 80 plus and the old ale 45 to 50 ibus.
I read your grain totals
I read your grain totals wrong. go with an pale ale at 30 to 50 ibus with same hops.
Understand
Thanks for the responce... Will see if I can use ProMash to plan some different batch variations. May need to make these Jeff's "six pack" batches so I can change it up faster. ;)
Pale ale is right on the mark, as far as what I like.
No but Galena pellets (10%) and Nugget whole (12%) for bittering. Since the Nugget is whole hops and is said (per Promash) not to store well, I'd may choose to use it 1st.
I like galena and nugget.
I like galena and nugget. They both are pretty similar. You may want to do a test batch like the myers six pack to see how they both taste as flovor hops. They taste a lot different then the c hops. I like them as flavor hops in very small amounts do to there harsh flavour. But for bittering they are great.
